Synopsis:

A LITTLE FAKE RELATIONSHIP NEVER HURT ANYONE . . .

Kate Massie has big dreams-they just haven’t worked out. Yet. In the meantime, she spends her days clerking for a judge and her nights fantasizing about her tall, dark, and sexy gym crush. So when she runs into him one night, she’s shocked to realize he was her shy, nerdy junior-prom date. But that isn’t where the surprises end . . .

James Abell needs a date to his sister’s wedding. So when Kate agrees, he’s relieved . . . until one little lie turns their wedding date into a full-blown fake relationship. Only it doesn’t feel fake-not the toe-curling kisses and definitely not the electricity. Neither of them is looking for something real . . . but they just might fall for their own little white lie.

Review:

This light-hearted romp has cool characters and witty banter. Kate is tough on the outside, but warm and friendly on the inside. James should be the spokesperson for chivalry, and his old-fashioned ways will make just about any woman swoon. I enjoyed their interactions, and their attraction to each other was undeniable.

James’s mother comes across as every girlfriend’s nightmare, but despite her seemingly evil ways, I like her. I also really like Beth, and I’d really like to read a story about her finding her mate-for-life. Greg, James’s older brother was an absolute mess, and the interactions between the two were often funny.

The story had a small-town feel; everyone knows everyone and everything about everyone. I found James’s relationship with Brooke kinda strange – sweet, on his part – but kinda strange. I did wish the best for Brooke, and hopefully one day we’ll all get to read about her finding happiness.

The relationship developed rather quickly in the last third of the book. I would’ve like to see more between them, and it would’ve been more believable if they’d been apart a little while longer before the reconciliation. I think they both needed more time to explore themselves, but I still enjoyed the story.

Rating system: Cups of coffee (The less the better)

0: You won’t need any coffee to stay up for this one. It’s intriguing enough all on its own.
1: You’ll stay up late, but not all night. Brew one cup.
2: You’ll read as long as you’re not tired. If you are, two cups should do the trick.
3: I hope you got plenty of rest; you’ll need it, or at least 3 cups.
4: If the cable goes out, read the book. It’s better than nothing, I guess. Oh, don’t forget your brew!
5: Find anything else to do- it doesn’t matter what it is. Don’t waste your coffee. Too much caffeine is bad for you.

My rating: 1 1/2 cups of coffee
