Book Review: Scot of My Dreams by Janice Maynard

Scot of My DreamsRelease Date: May 10, 2016
Publisher: Lyrical Press
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Format: Ebook

In USA Today bestselling author Janice Maynard’s sweet and sexy new series, three childhood friends with a shared passion for the Outlander novels and TV show decide to travel to Scotland looking for adventure—and their very own Highland heroes…

Willow Ryman is as crazy about Scotland as her friends, but she’s on a tighter budget. So during their visit, she opts to stay at a shabby local hostel instead of a cozy B&B. When the owners abruptly decide to shut down for renovations, Willow is left out in the cold—until while exploring the countryside, Willow meets a handsome, friendly, kilt-clad fisherman. The Scotsman is everything she’s dreamed about. But he’s a blueblood, and she’s blue collar…

Bryce McBrae’s lineage as Laird McBrae has always been more of a burden than a blessing. Rarely does it spark such stimulating conversation as he enjoys with the pretty, refreshing American. Wanting more and unwilling to let Willow slip away, he invites her to stay at his castle. But as the two fall hard and fast for each other, they’ll have to decide whether this is just a vacation fling—or a sexy Cinderella story come true…

Review:

An original premise with a witty heroine and magnetizing hero!

Ok, I have to say – I’m going to Scotland! I totally crushed on Bryce, and Willow is my newest homegirl. I enjoyed them both. Willow was trying to break out of her shell, and although Bryce is a red-blooded man, he took his responsibilities seriously enough to forego gallivanting around with anything that can wear a skirt.

The story unfolded at a pleasant pace, and I easily imagined every scene. I was actually so absorbed in the Culloden trip, I almost shed a tear. Although they were drawn to each other, they each knew they lived totally different lives on different continents. They knew it was best to be just friends, but their connections was so strong, they couldn’t resist. I wasn’t surprised at their union, but I must say, the way the declaration came about was a surprise. Nicely done!

I wished the book had been longer. The climax was very quick, so I didn’t have time to “worry” (not that there was really anything to worry about since a HEA is in order), but I still like to pretend. 🙂

Nonetheless, it was a very entertaining story, and I recommend it!

Rating system: Cups of Coffee (the less the better)

0: You won’t need any coffee to stay up for this one. It’s intriguing enough all on its own.
1: You’ll stay up late, but not all night. Brew one cup.
2: You’ll read as long as you’re not tired. If you are, two cups should do the trick.
3: I hope you got plenty of rest; you’ll need it, or at least 3 cups.
4: If the cable goes out, read the book. It’s better than nothing, I guess. Oh, don’t forget your brew!
5: Find anything else to do- it doesn’t matter what it is. Don’t waste your coffee. Too much caffeine is bad for you.

My rating: 1/2 cup of coffee
