Book Review: Neighbors with Benefits by Marissa Clarke

Michael Anderson not only loves organization, but he lives by it. Everything has a rightful place, and it bugs the hell out of him when those spaces are honored. What bugs him even more is the loud housesitter next door.

Mia Argaropolis was warned by her current client to steer clear of the obnoxious neighbor. Those words would’ve been easier to obey had he not been so gorgeous; and judging by the oohs, ahhs, and oh baby’s she hears coming from his apartment every night, she’s not the only one who thinks he’s hot.

When one too many complaints make their way back to her client, Mia’s asked to vacate the premise, leaving her with no where to stay for the next two weeks until her next gig starts. Feeling bad after insulting her, Michael offers to let her sleep on his couch, in exchange for caring for the pooch – who hates him – that his therapist saddled him with.

After helping her with a run-in with her cheating ex-boyfriend, the two end up fake engaged, steering their business deal in another direction.

Clarke hit the mark with this loveable contemporary.  Their cute meet was totally unexpected – nothing what I thought when I read the title. Such a nice surprise. The witty exchanges are delightful, the secondary characters are a treat. I love Michael’s brothers and his interactions with them.

The relationship development was beautifully crafted and the emotional development believable. Separate, Mia and Michael are both charming. But together, they’re completely endearing. They complimented each other, and I cheered through every chapter.

Turn off the TV and put a Do Not Disturb sign on the door. You’ll thank me later.

Rating system: Cups of coffee – the less the better

0: You won’t need any coffee to stay up for this one. It’s intriguing enough all on its own.
1: You’ll stay up late, but not all night. Brew one cup.
2: You’ll read as long as you’re not tired. If you are, two cups should do the trick.
3: I hope you got plenty of rest; you’ll need it, or at least 3 cups.
4: If the cable goes out, read the book. It’s better than nothing, I guess. Oh, don’t forget your brew!
5: Find anything else to do- it doesn’t matter what it is. Don’t waste your coffee. Too much caffeine is bad for you.

My rating: 0 cups of coffee
