Scot Duncan Mackenzie believes he’s died and gone to heaven. Not just because he’s laying out on the battlefield battered and bruised with several other unidentified injuries, but because he sees a golden-haired angel. Lady Grace Carrington has never seen anything like it before. Bodies everywhere – bleeding and lifeless. She, along with her sister who’s married to the Major, were there to offer support, and whatever medical treatment they could figure out.

When Grace accompanies Duncan to see the medic, they start a friendship that immediately blossoms into more. There’s no way a match between the two would ever be accepted, so they embark on a journey of stolen kisses, forbidden touches, and heart-wrenching separation. However, not even war, family rejection, or distance can numb the effects of a stab from cupid’s arrow.

A kilt, a Scottish brogue, a hot body, and honor – Duncan couldn’t be sexier if I had dreamt him up, and believe you me, he reads like a dream. I totally crushed on the tough- yet gentle- warrior chapter after chapter. Lady Grace was tender as expected, on the outside, with a passionate, willing-to-take-risks inside. Their scintillating stares and electrifying exchanges are trademarks for romance novels. From the “cute meet” to the happily ever after, I was totally devoted to their relationship.

The pace is flawless and the vigorous climax precedes a welcoming, believable turn of events. The descriptions are pictorial, the narrative advances the story, the dialogue is engaging.

Haymore’s winsome, soldierly historical left me as elated as an ant at an abandoned picnic.

My thoughts in 3 words – BUY THE BOOK

Rating system: Cups of coffee – the less the better

0: You won’t need any coffee to stay up for this one. It’s intriguing enough all on its own.
1: You’ll stay up late, but not all night. Brew one cup.
2: You’ll read as long as you’re not tired. If you are, two cups should do the trick.
3: I hope you got plenty of rest; you’ll need it, or at least 3 cups.
4: If the cable goes out, read the book. It’s better than nothing, I guess. Oh, don’t forget your brew!
5: Find anything else to do- it doesn’t matter what it is. Don’t waste your coffee. Too much caffeine is bad for you.

My rating: 0 cups of coffee
