Loving You #2

Perfect for fans of Kristan Higgins
and Robyn Carr, this sexy yet sweet military romance reunites a headstrong
dancer and a rugged army soldier after one steamy encounter tears them apart.
As a dancer who
creates mesmerizing visions onstage, Neve James is looking for the same kind of
stability in her love life. Her pen pal, Rory McRoy, is on leave from
deployment in Afghanistan, so she heads to Boston to surprise him. After
corresponding for months as part of a “Support Our Troops” initiative—and
exchanging dozens of “Read When You’re Alone” letters—Neve knows what Rory
likes, and she intends to fulfill his every fantasy. But all they get are a few
blissful moments together before they’re interrupted by a woman claiming to be
Rory’s fiancée.
in
Rory has fallen hard for Neve’s letters. When he finally meets her in person,
he has to have her, right then and there—until Neve takes off in a fit of
anger. Forced to return to Afghanistan before he can fix things between them,
Rory waits four agonizing months to prove that he’s not the man Neve thinks he
is. But by the time he arrives in New York, she’s already made up her mind.
Luckily, Rory never backs down from a challenge, and he’s prepared to put
everything on the line for love.
My review:
I enjoyed reading the letters between Neve and Rory, and how creative it was of Marcus to open with one. Their words were beyond entertaining, and I loved that the relationship was open right from the start. In the first couple of pages, readers get a good look of the type of person Neve is, and it was quite a treat to read her letters. Rory holds his own with her, expressing himself just as openly as she does.
I can appreciate a strong heroine any day of the week – I actually prefer them – but I must admit, on occasion, my initial good impression of her strength often turned sour. She sometimes went way overboard to the point that I felt sorry for Rory, and wondered why he thought she was worth the trouble. However, as I continued to read, I did understand her better – as it should be- but, although I knew why she behaved the way she did, I still grew tired of her behavior. She wanted to change her life, and not be known as someone who was only good for sex, but yet she kept offering just that – sex. I really wished I gotten a better look at her offering other ways to comfort Rory. The true connection is more apparent in the letters, than when they’re together in person, so without them, the relationship would’ve appeared to be based mainly on sex.
It is a decent read, and although not at the top of my list, it’s nowhere near the bottom.
Rating system: Cups of coffee – the less the better
0: You won’t need any coffee to stay up for this one. It’s intriguing enough all on its own.
1: You’ll stay up late, but not all night. Brew one cup.
2: You’ll read as long as you’re not tired. If you are, two cups should do the trick.
3: I hope you got plenty of rest; you’ll need it, or at least 3 cups.
4: If the cable goes out, read the book. It’s better than nothing, I guess. Oh, don’t forget your brew!
5: Find anything else to do- it doesn’t matter what it is. Don’t waste your coffee. Too much caffeine is bad for you.
My rating: 2 cups of coffee
