When a sexy CEO needs protection…only the best will do.
CEO Steve Nolan is wealthy, successful, and in danger. Now, thanks to his business partner, he has a bodyguard—a rigid, controlled woman with a smoky voice that invites steamy thoughts of rumpled sheets and oh-so-satisfying sleepless nights. So if Steve has to play the game, he’s going to make damn sure he’s in charge of the rules…just as long as no one finds out.
April Porter has met incredibly handsome, high-powered men before. Guys just as smooth, who didn’t take her seriously, and who broke her heart. So she’s just here to do her job and stay focused and professional.
Even if Steve Nolan isn’t just another rich jerk.
Even if the sexual spark between them keeps getting hotter.
And even if protecting his business and his ass(ets) means April could lose her heart in the bargain…
Review:
This book started out really good. Although the premise wasn’t totally unique, the introduction had me hooked. It’s no secret that Steve is a playboy, but what is kept under wraps is his considerate side. He fights a good fight, and has plenty of reasons to pretend to be uncaring. He’s trying to protect himself and those he loves. He does like having a good time, but he’s all about business and family.
I found April refreshing. I like that she was the protector, and although an amateur by trade, she is very skilled and takes her job very seriously. She can’t deny her attraction to Steve – at least not to herself, but she plans to keep it under wraps as far as he’s concerned, the operative word being plans.
The relationship develops along side the mystery, and although the lovers do spend some time getting to know each other’s secrets, I felt like something was missing. I’m not sure what exactly, but I do know I didn’t get the oooh and ahhh I look forward to.
I was a little disappointed in the outcome of the threats. The scene at the charity event was a little exciting, but I expected more-wanted more- from the discovery.
Overall, the story was pretty interesting, and although not at the top of my list, it’s nowhere near the bottom.
Rating system: The less the better.
0: You won’t need any coffee to stay up for this one. It’s intriguing enough all on its own.
1: You’ll stay up late, but not all night. Brew one cup.
2: You’ll read as long as you’re not tired. If you are, two cups should do the trick.
3: I hope you got plenty of rest; you’ll need it, or at least 3 cups.
4: If the cable goes out, read the book. It’s better than nothing, I guess. Oh, don’t forget your brew!
5: Find anything else to do- it doesn’t matter what it is. Don’t waste your coffee. Too much caffeine is bad for you.
My rating: 2 cups of coffee
