I fell in love with this series when I read Highland Heat, and I couldn’t wait to read more.
Camden definitely needs a spanking – the good and bad kind. He is arrogant in a sweet way (and yes, that’s possible), and as naughty as they come, and I just absolutely loved him -even when he was wrong. How sick is that? It’s called good writing. Kudos to Haymore. This character was beautifully flawed, with a lot of wit, and way too much charm.
Esme was a treat. A nice, unexpected, you-never-know-what-she’s-going-to-do treat. She wrote about romance, and longed to experience it herself, and boy did Cam come through for her. A few sentences actually made me forget I was reading a historical romance. I usually frown upon that, but I kept my forehead wrinkle-free this time.
Now for the mystery. My eyes got big as saucers when I found out who the culprit was. I was surprised, so surprised, and that fascinates me. I sometimes couldn’t tell what I wanted more of in the next chapter- exchanges between the lovers, or more info on the killer. In the end it didn’t matter. I was happy.
I wish there had been a tad bit more togetherness before the realization that they were madly in love- but don’t read too much into it and definitely don’t let it deter you from reading the book. I was not disappointed, and I did feel their connection. However, with a few more pages, the depth would’ve been deeper.
Although I enjoyed Highland Heat more, I still really liked this story as well, and I will definitely be keeping up with the series.
Rating system: The less the better.
0: You won’t need any coffee to stay up for this one. It’s intriguing enough all on its own.
1: You’ll stay up late, but not all night. Brew one cup.
2: You’ll read as long as you’re not tired. If you are, two cups should do the trick.
3: I hope you got plenty of rest; you’ll need it, or at least 3 cups.
4: If the cable goes out, read the book. It’s better than nothing, I guess. Oh, don’t forget your brew!
5: Find anything else to do- it doesn’t matter what it is. Don’t waste your coffee. Too much caffeine is bad for you.
My rating: 1/2 cup of coffee
