Blurb

One year after her fiancé died in a heartbreaking accident, Drew McGovern decides to honor his memory by joining his old storm-chasing buddies on their latest excursion. What she’s not so sure about, however, is whether she’s ready to move on. Drew wasn’t expecting to feel the powerful pull of desire toward Colby’s best friend. But there’s no denying the intensity of their connection . . . or the heat he inspires in the parts of her that are still very much alive.

Aiden O’Neal doesn’t trust himself around Drew. He’s wanted this girl for a long time—long enough to remember the stab of jealousy he felt the first time he saw her in Colby’s arms. Now he’s trying his best to behave himself. But when the wind starts blowing and the adrenaline starts pumping, Aiden can’t resist the urge to claim Drew as his own. Because when it comes to desire, he’s hoping to make lightning strike twice.

Review:

Drew is still trying to move on from the untimely death of her fiance. To assist her recovery and add some excitement to her life, she joins his old storm-chasing group. It’s just what she needs. She’d always wondered what had drawn him to the profession, and considering she’s been taking care of her siblings; and a selfish, alcoholic mother, she can’t wait to get away. Her siblings are tucked away in college, and now she can live for herself.

Aiden has always wanted Drew, but she was with his best friend. He was truly happy for them, and he was prepared to be the best man at their wedding. When Aiden died, he hurt just as bad as Drew, and all he wanted was to be there for her. He tried to resist his feelings for her. He got plenty of sex from other women, but he never wanted to connect to anybody but Drew.

It’s not unheard of in romances for a man to be attracted to his best friend’s woman, but throwing in the storm-chasing created a nice twist. The action, the wind, and the threats to safety keep the pages turning as much as the anticipation of the lovers coming together. There’s enough sexual tension to stop a tornado, and although Aiden is no stranger to the sheets, he has a boyish type charm when it comes to Drew- until she shows she reciprocates his feelings, that is. I immersed myself into the story and wanted to become a part of the group.

The entertaining banter and easy comraderie brought the characters to life, and the sharp descriptions put the readers in the middle of each scene. The characters are well-developed, without being too complex, and I’d love to read more about them all.

I do wish the story had been a little longer, and that I got more of Drew and Aiden outside of the storm-chasing scene, but nonetheless, I’m quite pleased with the selection.

Rating system: Cups of Coffee (the less the better)

0: You won’t need any coffee to stay up for this one. It’s intriguing enough all on its own.
1: You’ll stay up late, but not all night. Brew one cup.
2: You’ll read as long as you’re not tired. If you are, two cups should do the trick.
3: I hope you got plenty of rest; you’ll need it, or at least 3 cups.
4: If the cable goes out, read the book. It’s better than nothing, I guess. Oh, don’t forget your brew!
5: Find anything else to do- it doesn’t matter what it is. Don’t waste your coffee. Too much caffeine is bad for you.

My rating: 1 cup of coffee
