Book Review: My Lady Rogue by Katherine Bone

ASIN: B00U52L6CY

Gillian has waited years to be with the married man she loves. Now that the grave has ended his loveless union, she believes they’ll finally be together, until the one thing that held them together threatens to come to an end. Will their love be enough to sustain through their grief?

Unfortunately, I can only guess that the answer is yes, because this is a romance novel, one, I’m sorry to say, I couldn’t finish. It wasn’t due to the demands of other duties, but because I found the book to be tedious, slow-placed, and completely lacking in any kind of events or dialogue that are even slightly interesting.

By chapter 4, I still had no desire to bond with the characters, or to find out how their story would play out. I found the writing to be bathed in excessive narrative that completely drowned any chance the book had of being worth the time it took to publish it. The author used mundane procrastination to push the story along, instead of actually creating worthwhile scenes.

Rating system: Cups of coffee – the less the better

0: You won’t need any coffee to stay up for this one. It’s intriguing enough all on its own.
1: You’ll stay up late, but not all night. Brew one cup.
2: You’ll read as long as you’re not tired. If you are, two cups should do the trick.
3: I hope you got plenty of rest; you’ll need it, or at least 3 cups.
4: If the cable goes out, read the book. It’s better than nothing, I guess. Oh, don’t forget your brew!
5: Find anything else to do- it doesn’t matter what it is. Don’t waste your coffee. Too much caffeine is bad for you.

My rating: 5 cups of coffee (and a shot of 5 hour energy drink).
