As sweet as rocky road on a cake cone, however I prefer waffle cones.

Creative is definitely one word I can use to describe this book. I liked the ice cream parlor theme, and the names of the heroine and her sisters were candy-coated factuals.

Libby’s fresh, paycheck-taking email sent her back home with bags packed and missing a boyfriend. She’s optimistic about her future, despite being pretty much blacklisted from her profession. Things begin to turn around when she meets Tom, who has a middle name that’s as big as much as a conversation starter as her whole name. He has enough demons to fill hell, but his determination to conquer them makes him likable and worth reading about.

As a whole, the story was pretty good, however I found it a little lacking in the climax. I felt everything was settled to quickly and easily and was all wrapped up in a nice little bow. I would’ve like to see a little more distance between them, and a much stronger coming back together.

The whole thing with his daughter definitely needed a little more. No matter how mature a teenager might somehow turn out to be, I find it a bit of a stretch that one with as much hostility and heartbreak as Rachel to be able to just develop a forgiving thought after only a day and a half of thinking. I had no problem with her wising up and deciding to give her dad a break, however, I found the timing a little on the pushing it side.

Also the ending left me feeling like I ran out of VHS tape before the movie finished taping.

The author’s writing style was commendable. I think she has a way with words, and despite me feeling like this one was lacking something, I’d like to read some more of her work.

All-in-all it was pleasing enough to finish, but not fulfilling enough to read again.

Rating system: Cups of coffee – the less the better

0: You won’t need any coffee to stay up for this one. It’s intriguing enough all on its own.
1: You’ll stay up late, but not all night. Brew one cup.
2: You’ll read as long as you’re not tired. If you are, two cups should do the trick.
3: I hope you got plenty of rest; you’ll need it, or at least 3 cups.
4: If the cable goes out, read the book. It’s better than nothing, I guess. Oh, don’t forget your brew!
5: Find anything else to do- doesn’t matter what it is. Don’t waste your coffee. Too much caffeine is bad for you.

My rating: 2 cups of coffee
